(Harrisburg, PA)—Joseph J. Foriska, principal of Stevens Elementary School in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, has been named president of the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary School Principals (PAESP) for 2001-2002.
Foriska previously served as principal of Langley High School, the Pioneer Education Center, Arsenal Middle School and Burgwin Elementary, all in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Additionally, he was assistant principal of Prospect Middle School & Multi-Cultural Center and Knoxville Middle School, also in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.

(Harrisburg, PA)—Frank P. Galicki, principal of Dallas Senior High School in the Dallas School District, has been named president of the Pennsylvania Association of Secondary School Principals (PASSP) for 2001-2002. Galicki currently serves PASSP as president-elect, and has served as a past president and chair of the Pennsylvania Associations of Elementary and Secondary School Principals’ Joint Management Committee. He is a former president and president-elect of PASSP as well as a member of the Conference Committee (1994-present) and the East I Regional Representative (1993-1997).

(Harrisburg, PA)— Dr. Thomas P. Carey, deputy director of elementary and secondary education for the Pennsylvania Department of Education, has been selected to receive the prestigious Pennsylvania Associations of Elementary and Secondary School Principals’ (PAESSP) 2001 Educational Excellence Award. The award, given annually, recognizes a Pennsylvanian who has made significant contributions to public education and who continues to demonstrate a sincere commitment to quality education for all the children of the Commonwealth. The award will be presented to Dr. Carey in a special ceremony during the banquet at PAESSP’s ninth annual joint state conference, October 29, 2001, at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh.

(Harrisburg, PA)—More than 250 elementary and secondary school principals will convene in Pittsburgh for the ninth annual joint conference of the Pennsylvania Associations of Elementary and Secondary School Principals (PAESSP) to be held October 28-30, 2001, at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel.
Distinguished attendees include Richard Barbacane of Lancaster, immediate past president of the National Association of Elementary School Principals; Dr. John Thompson, superintendent of Pittsburgh Schools; and Alex Matthews, president of the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education.

(Harrisburg, PA)—Dr. Zeb Jansante, a principal at Quaker Valley High School, Leetsville, Pa., has been selected to participate in the Principals’ Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., July 15-17, 2001. Dr. Jansante has been selected based on his reputation as an outstanding principal.
The U.S. Department of Education, with assistance from the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the National Middle School Association, is sponsoring the summit. It will bring together 100 elementary, middle and secondary school principals from across the nation. Together, principals across the nation will extend the discussion of principal as instructional leader that began at the first summit, held last summer.

Shivetts, executive director of the Pennsylvania Associations of Elementary and Secondary School Principals (PAESSP), and president of the Pennsylvania Educational Leadership Foundation, Summerdale, Pa., has been selected to participate in the Principals’ Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., July 15-17, 2001. Mr. Shivetts is one of only eight statewide leaders selected by United States Secretary of Education, Rod Paige.
The U.S. Department of Education, with assistance from the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the National Middle School Association, is sponsoring the summit. It will bring 100 elementary, middle and secondary school principals together with professional association leaders from across the nation.
