   The Governor's Academy for Urban Education provides educators in grades K-8 an intensive, rigorous professional learning opportunity designed to improve teaching and learning in Pennsylvania's urban classrooms. Successful participants will earn graduate credits, which may be applied to Act 48 recertification requirements.

   Registration is from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2003 in Moyer Hall of Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pa. The Academy's program begins with dinner at 4 p.m. Sunday and concludes at 1 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2003. The Academy's instructional program, speakers and schedule will be posted to http://www.pa-academy.org/gua as they become available.

Dr. Stephen A. Pavlak for a registration form (see contact information below). The deadline for registering is April 21, 2003 regardless of the method used. Acceptance to the Governor's Urban Academy will be confirmed in writing. Each educator accepted to attend the Governor's Urban Academy is required to pay a $35 registration fee payable to the PA Academy for the Profession of Teaching and Learning.

  Classrooms and computer labs will be available for participant use. The instructional program, dormitory lodging, parking and meals are provided at a modest registration fee of $35 to educators who are accepted to attend the Academy. The registration fee will be refunded on Friday, June 27, 2003 to all educators who complete the Academy.
