PASSP/MetLife - PA Middle Level Principal
of the Year Award

   Dr. Karol L. Galcik, principal of Highlands Middle School in Natrona Heights, Pa., was selected as the 2002 PASSP Middle Level Principal of the Year in the MetLife/NASSP Principal of the Year Program.

   A principal in the Highlands School District, Dr. Galcik has served as a school administrator for 10 years; six of those years were spent in her current position. She began her education career as an English, reading, speech, drama and language arts teacher. She assumed the position of assistant principal of the Highlands School District in 1991, and has held her current position as principal since 1995.

   Dr. Galcik is a member of PASSP/NASSP; the National Middle School Association; the Pennsylvania Middle School Association; the Western Region PA Middle School Association; and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

   Dr. Galcik received a bachelor of science degree from Clarion University and a master’s of education/secondary education from the University of Pittsburgh. She received her Pennsylvania secondary/elementary principal certificates and her doctor of education in leadership, both from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
