Safe Schools

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has distributed a booklet, “School Safety Resources Assessing Threats of Violence: Resources to Help Educators Plan and Respond to Incidents that Threaten the Safety of Students and Staff,” to all superintendents in the Commonwealth.

To obtain additional copies, see the PDE web site at www.pde.state.pa.us. In the section, “Education Reform Initiatives,” click on “Safe Schools,” then “Center for Safe Schools” and go to “Resources.” You will find “Assessing Threats of Violence.”

In addition, the Center for Safe Schools has additional hard copies of this booklet and a library with other resources that can assist your school district to plan and respond to incidents. Call the center at (717) 763-1661 or check the web site at www.center-school.org.

An additional resource for “safe schools” information is the Center for Disease Control. See their web site at www.cdc.gov.
