Remembering September 11: What Schools Should Do
According to experts, schools should carefully plan any event
that commemorates the first anniversary of September 11. What's most important
is that the activity reflect what your students need. That may be a moment of
silence, a flag raising, a written activity, a visit from local
firefighters or nothing.
The National Association of School Psychologists has materials for remembering September 11 for educators, parents, and the media at
http://www.nasponline.org. The National School Public Relations Association has also prepared an "Alert" on issues and tips for handling the anniversary at http://www.nspra.org/Alert-Sept11Anniversary.pdf.
