PA Academy on Urban Education
Are you concerned about what goes on in K-8 urban
classrooms in
Pennsylvania? Then sign up by April 22 for the Governor's
Academy for Urban
Education, to be held June 23-28, 2002 at Muhlenberg
College in Allentown, Pa. This annual academy is sponsored by the Pennsylvania
Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Academy for the Profession of
Teaching and Learning of the PA State System of Higher
Education.
Classroom teachers and administrators will participate
jointly in sessions
to develop a Teaching and Learning Improvement Plan.
Other joint topics
include the alignment of curricula with Pennsylvania's
academic standards,
a successful program that motivates all students, and
appropriate
technology applications.
Successful participants will be refunded the $35
registration fee, which
includes room and board, and will earn graduate credits,
which may be
applied to Act 48 recertification requirements if all
established
requirements are met. First priority for admittance will
be extended to
Pennsylvania teams of educators, which include a school
administrator, from
urban and empowerment districts. The registration
deadline is April 22,
2002.
