Warm Up With A Good Book – Principal Storytime Has Returned!
Barnes & Noble is excited to offer the Principal Storytime program to its local elementary schools. Kids love to listen to their principals read at the Barnes & Noble bookstores, their families enjoy meeting other families and principals value the opportunity to spend time with their students' families.
Besides promoting reading to your students, Principal Storytime gives you the opportunity to raise money for your school through an in-store bookfair that Barnes & Noble hosts for you that evening. This is a great way to earn extra money for library books or a special school project.
Please call Miranda Connelly at (717) 737-1350 to schedule your Principal Storytime. Barnes & Noble hosts this event in its children's department from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. select weekday evenings -- you have the rest of the evening free and your students are not out too late. Story times will begin in January and run through March 2003.
Principal Storytime: How it Works
Ø Call Miranda Connelly, community relations manager at Barnes & Noble, Camp Hill, at (717) 737-1350, to schedule a date to be a featured reader.
Ø You will receive a confirmation letter, a Voucher Bookfair Contract and a master copy of a Bookfair Voucher that advertises Principal Storytime. Sign and return the contract as soon as possible. Make copies of the voucher and distribute it to your students at least one week prior to your event.
Ø Anything you can do to promote the event and increase attendance will add to your success. Principals have included the voucher in school newsletters, made morning announcements, dressed up in costume, held contests with other principals and even excused attendees from homework - the most successful ploy of all!
Ø Stop by or call the Camp Hill store and select the books (about six) that you would like to read that evening. Someone at Barnes & Noble will set them aside for you.
Ø The school that achieves the highest percentage of student attendance at the story time (as a percentage of school enrollment) will win a special story time visit to your school by one of Barnes & Noble's costumed characters.
Ø On the day of the event, remind your students to attend and to bring their vouchers. Tell them about the prize that your school could win if they attend.
Ø You will read from 6-7 p.m. Barnes & Noble will decorate the children's department in your school colors and assist as needed.
Ø When supporters of your school present their vouchers at the register, Barnes & Noble will record their purchases and donate 15-25% of the total voucher sales back to your school! *
*Percentage is based on total sales recorded on vouchers that are presented at the registers during your event.
