Attention PAESSP Members:

The Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (PASCD) has invited all Pennsylvania educational organizations to present position papers concerning the impacts of high stakes testing at a special meeting and press conference on May 9, 2003 at the Hershey Conference Center.

PAESSP intends to participate and present the association position related to PSSA and high stakes testing in general. PASSP President Marshal Wagner, PAESP President Dave Pietro and I have volunteered to gather information from the membership concerning key points that should be included in that presentation. NASSP Coordinator Bob Eichensher and NAESP Representative Tom Sigafoos have volunteered to gather information related to the positions that NASSP and NAESP have taken with respect to high stakes testing.

We all know that high stakes testing has a profound impact upon the educational programs within local schools. Such tests often impact upon the well being of individual children. Please poll your local membership to gather input and reactions to high stakes testing and forward it to me at the PAESSP office at (717) 732-4890 (FAX) or e-mail to [email protected] as soon as possible. We will summarize the data that you forward and will then develop an appropriate PAESSP response.

Thank you for your cooperation on this project.

Sincerely,
Dan Collins
PAESSP Executive Director
