ANNOUNCEMENT
The NASSP Board of Directors has voted to establish three major new task forces:
· The National Task Force on NCLB for Middle Level and High Schools
· The National Task Force on Urban Education for Middle Level and High Schools
· The National Task Force on Principal Preparation Programs for Middle Level and High School Principals.
The task forces are charged with addressing timely and pertinent issues and topics impacting leaders of middle level and senior high schools, and the various programs designed to prepare the principals of our nation’s schools.
Each task force will have 12-15 members, the majority of which will be principals and assistant principals. Every effort will be made to ensure a broad diversity of participation.

National Task Force on NCLB for Middle Level & High Schools
Responsibilities:
· Identify NCLB provisions in current law and regulation that are problematic in terms of implementation, and propose improvements.· Propose recommendations related to the reauthorization of NCLB. · Serve as a major source of input to NASSP from the field. · Serve as a working group producing “products” that promote improvement of NCLB policy, and best practices related to NCLB implementation. · Provide recommendations and article submissions to NASSP for future publications. · Represent NASSP at various meetings, and before the press and other public audiences, where appropriate. · Identify research questions that inform the profession. · Communicate the work of the Association to present and potential members.Composition: The Task Force will consist of middle level and high school principals and assistant principals, as well as representatives from higher education, national associations, and policy organizations that closely monitor NCLB.

Responsibilities:
· Identify best practices in school leadership and assist in disseminating those practices that promote excellence in school leadership.· Serve as a major source of input to NASSP from the field. · Serve as a working group producing “products” that promote excellence in school leadership. · Provide recommendations and article submissions to NASSP for future publications. · Represent NASSP at various meetings. · Identify research questions that inform the profession. · Communicate the work of the Association to current and potential members. |

Composition: |
The time commitment for the Task Force involves two annual meetings of three days. It will also require at least 60 hours annually on task force related work, including conference calls, independent research, report writing, and document review.
Enclosed you will find a Task Force application. Please note that the signatures of the applicant, and the applicant’s superintendent/dean/immediate supervisor are required in order to complete the application.

July 1-July 30, 2004 Selection review process
August, 2004 Board makes appointments & announces
Fall, 2004 New members’ terms begin
