The Sovereign Bank Second Mile Leadership Institute
The Sovereign Bank Second Mile Leadership Institute
The Sovereign Bank Second Mile Leadership Institute, April
1-4 , 2007, will serve more than 50 teams of high school students from
across the Commonwealth. Included in the four-day curriculum will be the keynote
speech given jointly by The Penn State Nittany Lion, Dave Johnson, and The
Second Mile founder, Jerry Sandusky.
During the four-day conference, students will gain valuable
leadership skills, experiencing what it takes to build an effective team. Some
of the sessions include identifying personal leadership styles, communicating
effectively within teams, working within and recruiting diverse teams, and
developing effective business plans. Near the end of the conference, student
teams will participate in a "Building Bridges" session and will learn
effective methods of working through conflicts during the "Conflict
Resolution" seminar.
By the close of the Institute, each team will have developed a
project action plan to positively impact school and/or community climate, which
the team will implement their junior years after expanding team membership.
Each invited school has been asked to send a diverse team of
students. The benefit of team-building with a high school panel of diverse
membership serving as leaders is that the students' implementation of the
service project within their school or home community will serve to promote
inter-group harmony among various factions within the school population.
Currently, they are looking for five more schools to join us for
this exciting conference. The conference is underwritten completely by The
Second Mile and its donors. If you are interested in joining us, please contact
Jeremy Fegert at (814) 237-1719 or by email at [email protected].
